GPPi Seeks Freelance Translators

The Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) is an independent, non-profit think tank in Berlin. We are inviting translators who are interested in joining our freelance roster to introduce themselves. We regularly draw on this roster when project work becomes available. We are particularly looking for translators who can translate from either English or German into a variety of languages.

What we are looking for:

  • Demonstrated practical experience as a translator for think tanks or similar research institutions, non-profits or international organizations;
  • Experience translating a variety of texts and outputs, from short opinion pieces (800 words) and research surveys to multi-page policy briefs and extensive, highly technical reports;
  • Native-level fluency in and translation experience into one of the following languages: German, English, French, Spanish, or Arabic;
  • Experience translating materials that relate to at least one of GPPi’s areas of work;
  • The ability to deliver high-quality results on time and under tight deadlines, and to quickly respond to inquiries about availability as well as feedback.

Should you have fluency and translation experience in languages other than the ones listed above, you are still welcome to get in touch. Relevant projects are much rarer, but we look forward to hearing from you regardless.

If you are interested in collaborating with us, please send the following as a single PDF to freelance@gppi.net:

  • Your CV (no Europass and no pictures, please);
  • A very brief letter of interest;
  • References (e.g., web links to or attached samples of previous relevant translation work);
  • Information about your general availability and hourly or per-word rate.

Please do not call for questions or to inquire about the status of your introduction, and please do not submit your documents in paper form. We are continuously adding to our freelance roster and will do our best to get back to you with our feedback as swiftly as possible.
