Funding Structure & Sources

At present, GPPi is entirely project-funded. We do not have an endowment or core funding. The institute is financed through project grants, contractual work, and donations. Our main funders are various foundations, European governments, the European Commission, and a number of United Nations agencies. The diversity of our financial sources helps us to preserve our intellectual independence and ability to work across political divides – two prerequisites for fulfilling our mission. As a non-profit organization, we reinvest profits generated by commercial contracts into our research and debate activities. We ensure organizational cohesion through financial solidarity across projects and teams.

We welcome tax-deductible donations from individuals and institutions who share our mission and would like to support our work. For more information, please contact Katrin Kinzelbach.

To preserve our intellectual freedom while forging partnerships with donors who want to support our work, GPPi applies the following three principles:

  1. GPPi values its intellectual freedom above all else and will not accept funding or rewards of any kind that seek to influence or control the direction, content, or findings of its research and projects.
  2. GPPi does not engage in lobbying to influence specific legislation, will not arrange for donors to meet with officials, or accept demands that violate the institute’s independence.
  3. To ensure transparency, GPPi publishes an annual financial overview on its website and discloses all project funders.
