Sophie Barnett is an intern with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where she supports the institute’s work on data and technology politics. Her research interests include cybersecurity and international law, and the interaction between the two.
Sophie holds a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Toronto and will begin her juris doctor at the University of Toronto in September 2018.
Sophie is also co-chair of the G20 Research Group, a global network of scholars who follow the work of the G20. In this capacity, she oversees the production of the group’s bi-annual compliance reports, which track G20 members’ compliance with the commitments they make at annual G20 summits. She attended the 2017 G7 and G20 Summits in Italy and Germany as an accredited member of the press and represented the group for international media, including France 24 and CBC News.
