Sarah Bressan

Sarah Bressan is a research fellow at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where she contributes to the institute’s work on peace and security. Her work focuses on international security, political violence, conflict analysis and prevention, as well as the role of data, technology, foresight, and evaluation in German and European foreign policy.

Sarah’s recent projects covered the topics of conflict early warning, scenario planning, forecasting and foresight, German public opinion, as well as the evaluation of small arms control in the Western Balkans and the prevention of violent extremism. She was the editor of PeaceLab Blog and has published articles on topics such as European foreign policy, the future of NATO, measuring violence and fragility, and the role of new technologies in conflict.

Prior to joining GPPi, Sarah analyzed conflict dynamics in sub-Saharan Africa at Freie Universität (FU) Berlin and Mannheim University. She supported academia-policy exchange and diplomatic training programs at FU Berlin, the German Federal Foreign Office and the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), worked on conflict sensitivity in development projects with the European Investment Bank and the Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement in Beirut and led intercultural exchange projects in Germany, Kenya and South Africa. She also co-founded ​“Better Think Tanking,” an initiative that works with organizations to improve leadership and management practices in the non-profit sector.

Sarah completed her studies in international security and political science at Mannheim University, University of Seoul, FU Berlin, and Sciences Po Paris.
