Mark Bui High Res

Mark Bui was a research associate at the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, where he worked on humanitarian action and monitoring and evaluation. His research interests include humanitarianism and international development with a focus on the use of data and technology in monitoring and evaluation. Keen on using visuals in research and advocacy, Mark has been exploring techniques and best practices in both static and interactive data visualization.

Prior to joining GPPi, Mark was a student consultant at the Budapest Institute, where he and his team conducted an assessment of Hungary’s current unemployment policies using the European Union’s tax simulator and micro data on income and living conditions. His professional experience also encompasses other evaluation projects, including one assessing a major open government initiative for the Sunlight Foundation in Washington, DC, and another on national nutrition policies for FHI360 in Vietnam. 

Mark holds a master’s degree in public administration from the Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, where he focused on governance and development as well as a bachelor’s degree in political economy and mathematics from the College of Idaho in the United States. His studies were supported financially by the Open Society Foundations and Shelby M.C. Davis.
