Arzu Hatakoy

Non-Resident Fellow

Arzu Hatakoy is a non-resident fellow with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi). Arzu is currently serving as the head of office for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), based in Herat. Previously, she led a project for the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) to implement EU and Germany’s peace process support for Syria and worked in humanitarian and political affairs for the UN in various positions, including on the cross-border Syria response, in support of operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan, South Sudan, and Haiti. She also worked in the Office of the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process in Jerusalem, occupied Palestinian territory. Arzu worked as a negotiation trainer and consultant with the Harvard Kennedy School Negotiation Project and served as a certified mediator in the Harvard Mediation Program.

Arzu holds a PhD from the Free University of Berlin, a master’s degree in public administration from Harvard University (McCloy Scholar) and a master’s degree in political science from Science Po. She is a graduate of the German Development Institute Training Program and was a fellow in the Global Governance Futures 2020 program.
