Antonio Galli

Antonio Galli currently works with the World Food Programme in Rome, providing field support and guidance on humanitarian access and civil-military coordination. He was a research associate with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) from October 2014 to April 2015, contributing to the institute’s work on humanitarian action and human rights. Antonio has led trainings with the Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection, and has written on issues related to humanitarian access, the protection of civilians, engagement with armed non-state actors, and the impact of counter-terror measures on humanitarian action.

Antonio previously worked with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Jerusalem as the deputy head of the Access Coordination Unit. He was responsible for analyzing and reporting on the impact of constraints on humanitarian assistance in Palestine, as well as conducting civil-military coordination and humanitarian access negotiations with armed non-state actors in order to facilitate the movement of humanitarian staff and assistance.

Antonio’s work experience also includes conducting internal evaluations of humanitarian and economic development programs in Palestine on behalf of the United States Agency for International Development and conducting civil-military coordination with Israeli authorities to facilitate project activities. He worked with the Economic Cooperation Foundation, an Israeli think tank, where he conducted field missions to collect data on protection issues in the West Bank during the second intifada.

Antonio holds a master’s in Middle Eastern history from Tel Aviv University and a bachelor’s degree in politics and sociology from the University of California in Santa Cruz. He is also currently pursuing a master’s in international human rights law at the University of Oxford.
