Andrea Binder

Non-Resident Fellow

Andrea Binder is a non-resident fellow with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) and a PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge. Her PhD studies focus on the global politics of tax haven regulation. For her studies Andrea was awarded a Gates Cambridge Scholarshipundefined.

Between 2011 and 2014, Andrea served as a GPPi associate director, co-heading GPPi’s work on humanitarian action and innovation in development. Between 2006 and 2011 she worked for the institute as a research associate. In her eight years with GPPi, she was involved in many research projects and evaluations, including the project Humanitarian Assistance: Truly Universal?; the work on determining the success of humanitarian attempts to protect civilians; the project on inequities in humanitarian assistance; the IASC Real-time Evaluation of the Disaster Response to the Haiti Earthquake; and the IASC Cluster Approach Evaluation Phase II. Andrea has conducted field research in Haiti, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, the Central African Republic, Ghana, Sri Lanka and Turkey.

Before joining GPPi in March 2006, Andrea worked as a lecturer in international relations at the University Tübingen, Germany. Her work experience also includes assignments with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Colombo, Sri Lanka and the Policy Planning Unit of the German Foreign Office in Berlin.

Andrea studied political science, economics and rhetoric at the University of Augsburg and the University of Tübingen; the Graduate Institute of International Studies (HEI) in Geneva; and the Institut d'études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) in France. She received her master’s in political science and international relations from the University of Tübingen in 2005. She received scholarships from the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg.
