GPPi holds policy luncheon and book launch event for “Global Energy Governance: The New Rules of the Game”
The Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) Berlin and the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMF) held a Global Energy Governance Policy Luncheon and Book Launch of “Global Energy Governance: The New Rules of the Game”, which was edited by Dr. Andreas Goldthau, Associate Professor, Department of Public Policy, Central European University and GPPi Fellow, and Jan Martin Witte, GPPi Associate Director. The book was published by Brookings Institution Press and was the result of a two-year research and dialogue program funded by the European Commission, the Dräger Foundation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, E.ON AG and E.ON Ruhrgas AG.
The global market for oil and gas is rapidly changing. Three major trends – the rise of new consumers, the increasing power of state players, and concerns about climate change – are challenging the existing energy landscape. In contrast to the prevalent geopolitical focus on energy, "Global Energy Governance" focuses on how regulatory institutions can ensure reliable sources of energy, evaluate financial risk, and provide emergency response mechanisms to deal with interruptions in supply. Bringing together high-level decision makers from industry, government, and civil society, it offers practical policy recommendations to deal with these new challenges.
Speakers at the event included Dr Andreas Goldthau, Associate Professor in Public Policy, Central European University and Fellow, GPPi and Enno Harks, Fellow, GPPi. The event took place on 17th May 2010 from 12:00pm – 2:00pm at the Hertie School of Governance, Quartier 110, Friedrichstrasse 180, 10117 Berlin.
