GPPi fellow presents at China-Africa conference in Lisbon

GPPi fellow Ricardo Soares de Oliveira presented at a conference on "Strategy and Security in Southern Africa" in Lisbon on October 12 and October 13 2006. The conference was jointly organized by the Luso-American Foundation and the Portuguese Council on Foreign Relations (IPRI).

 

The conference was opened by the Portuguese Foreign Minister, Luis Amado. Ricardo Soares De Oliveira, who is also a Fellow at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, presented a paper on "National Security, International Markets, and the Calculus of Chinese oil Investment in Africa". A revised version of this paper will appear in a volume on China’s role in Africa co-edited by Ricardo Soares De Oliveira, Daniel Large (SOAS) and Chris Alden (LSE). The book is scheduled for publication in early 2007.
