GPPi welcomes new team member
Martin Buettner has joined the Global Public Policy Institute, Berlin as a part-time Research Associate.
Prior to joining GPPi, Martin worked as a Donor Liaison Officer for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Berlin. He was also a project assistant at the Institute of European Politics, Berlin, a conference liaison officer for the German Foreign Office and volunteered as a language teacher for Bosnian war refugees at Southeast-European Culture e.V. in Berlin. He also interned with the Harvard Sussex Program on Biological and Chemical Weapons Disarmament at the University of Sussex, UK. His research interests focus on humanitarian assistance and reform of the humanitarian sector as well as on development cooperation.
Martin holds an M.A. in political science and international relations from the Free University of Berlin (Germany). He completed his final thesis on “Peace through Security Council-Mandated International Criminal Prosecution in Bosnia-Herzegovina?”. He also studied at the Institut de Hautes Etudes Internationales et du Développement (HEI and IUED) in Geneva and at Wake Forest University in the US where he focussed on security policy, development policy and international law. He received scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Wake Forest University and the Center for International Health and Cooperation (CIHC) for participation in its intensive humanitarian training program (International Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance (IDHA).
Martin will support GPPi's Raising the bar: Towards enhanced cooperation and coherence in transatlantic governance of natural disaster relief and preparedness team.
