GPPi visiting Project Associate addresses the Rotary Inter-city Meeting
GPPi visiting Project Associate Maribeth Gainard addressed the Rotary Inter-city Meeting at the Sparkassenhaus des Deutschen Sparkassen und Giroverbandes in Berlin on 6 May 2008. The meeting was held in honor of Rotary Foundation Chairman Robert S. Scott's visit to Berlin.
Gainard's address focused on her experiences as a Rotary World Peace Fellow at Sciences Po, Paris, her past work in Mali, and her current work on the Evaluation of the Understanding Children's Work (UWC) Project at the Global Public Policy Institute.
The program included a speech by Robert Scott on the priorities of the Rotary Foundation including the fight against polio and the promotion of peace and international understanding. Also addressing the audience was Wolfgang Jockusch, a Captain in the German Air Force who served in Afghanistan, who spoke on politics and policies surrounding the elimination of land mines and the Rotary for Mine Action initiative.
In attendance were State Secretary of the German Federal Chancellery, Hildegard Müller; the President of the German Savings Bank Association (DSGV), Heinrich Haasis; and 80 Rotarians from across Germany including 7 Rotarian governors.
