GPPi presents paper at international symposium on Euro-Asia relations in Shanghai
GPPi Research Associate Stephan Mergenthaler presented a paper at the Center for European Studies of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences' international symposium entitled "European Integration and its Impact on Euro-Asia Relations" on 28-29 May 2007 in Shanghai.
His paper, entitled, "The EU and China: New Partners for Effective Global Governance?" focuses on the emerging strategic partnership between the EU and China. Additionally, the paper proposes a research framework for the cooperation mechanisms, as well as preliminary hypotheses, on the potential content of such a strategic partnership.
Other topics on the conference agenda included EU-China cooperation within the U.N. system, the role of the Asia-Europe Meeting and the impact of China's strategy of peaceful development on relations between Asia and Europe. In the economic realm, papers focused amongst others on EU trade and competition law in the context of EU-China relations.
