GPPi to contribute to Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation workshop on enterprise development

In January 2008, the Employment and Income (E+I) Division of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will hold its 10th annual workshop on enterprise development. The workshop, coorganized by GPPi, will focus on the role of public-private development partnerships (PPDPs) in international development.

The E+I conference and workshop will explore PPDPs in order to better understand how they contribute to poverty reduction and how their impact can be increased and measured. The conference aims to inform the participants about PPDPs, provide a balanced view of the advantages and disadvantages, and address current understanding and gaps in knowledge in an objective way.

GPPi will assist in the preparation and implementation of the workshop, in particular, by organizing and implementing one working group track, tentatively entitled "Private sector engagement in development: Towards impact and sustainability". In this working group track, the promise and pitfalls of public-private development partnerships will be explored. Based on a variety of real-world case studies, working group participants will jointly explore the key drivers and levers behind these collaborative ventures, as well as identify key partnership management principles. In addition, the increasing engagement of private foundations in international development will be examined.
