GPPi publishes op-ed on European identity in Financial Times Deutschland
GPPi Fellow Sergey Lagodinsky published an op-ed on the future of European integration in the 20 March edition of Financial Times Deutschland. On the occasion of the EU's 50th anniversary, Lagodinsky discusses the role that a European identity can play in integrating Europe’s migrants. He argues that the national narratives cannot offer migrants an integrative identity. Europe can instead become such a "place of refuge" for Europe’s migrant identities. For this to happen, the character of the European Union should remain open both internally in the sense of religious and ethnic diversity and externally in the context of expansion towards Turkey. "Only then can we find an answer to Europe as a question we are all reckoning about", concludes Lagodinsky.
