GPPi op-ed calls for EU Iraq policy
GPPi Associate Director Thorsten Benner published an op-ed calling for a coherent EU strategy for stabilizing Iraq. The piece argues that with a new US administration certain to attempt to enlist the EU’s support, the EU is once again in danger of failing its Iraq test. The article calls for the French EU presidency to convene a group of both initial supporters and opponents of the Iraq war to formulate a three-pillar strategy for stabilizing Iraq: humanitarian aid; political negotiations; civil and economic reconstruction).
The English version entitled, “Wanted: An Iraq Strategy” was published in the online edition of The Guardian on 14 May 2008. The German version entitled, “Das Tabu brechen. Deutschland und Europa müssen im eigenen Interesse eine Strategie für den Irak entwickeln” was published by Financial Times Deutschland on 5 May 2008.
