GPPi Fellow presents research on deforestation emissions

Charlotte Streck, Director of Climate Focus and GPPi Fellow presented a paper entitled "Expanding the Carbon Market to Include REDD?" at a conference entitled "Private Sector Participation in Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation" (REDD). This conference was a side event to the United Nations Climate Change Conference which took place in Bali, Indonesia and was held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Bali on Thursday, December 6th.

This event drew on lessons learned from the existing trading mechanisms, practical experience, and financial analysis and identified and discussed issues that need to be addressed to develop REDD policy that will work in practice. Streck drew on her practical experience at the World Bank to summarize the lessons learned from a decade of carbon trading and analyze how these lessons apply to the design of an effective REDD trading mechanism. The event also included presentations from four other experts in the field of emissions reduction.
