GPPi associate takes up fellowship at Harvard University

GPPi research associate Philipp Rotmann has taken up a scholarship for two years of study at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, starting September 2. He remains with the Global Public Policy Institute as a non-resident fellow and continues to work on two GPPi projects on the United Nations and international peace operations: "Learning to Build Peace? The United Nations, Peace Operations and Organizational Learning" and "The New Protectorates: International Administration and the Dilemmas of Governance."

Philipp Rotmann was awarded a McCloy Scholarship by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and, upon nomination by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), a Charles W. Holtzer Fellowship by Harvard University. During his time at the Harvard Kennedy School, he will complete a two-year Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. Rotmann holds a B.A. from the University of Erfurt (Germany), where he studied economics, political science and law, and an M.A. in international relations from Humboldt University Berlin, the Free University Berlin and the University of Potsdam. In 2004/05, he spent an academic year at the University of Essex (UK). Earlier in his career, he worked for three years as a project manager and team leader in the IT industry.

The McCloy Academic Scholarship Program is administered by the German National Academic Foundation. It is funded by Harvard University; the McCloy Scholarship Foundation in the Donors’ Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany; the Federal Ministry of Economics as the trustee of ERP special assets; the Haniel Foundation; and the McCloy Alumni Fund.

For more information on the two projects mentioned, please see our pages on "Learning to Build Peace?" and "The New Protectorates." Further information on the McCloy Academic Scholarship Program is available from the German National Academic Foundation and from the Harvard Kennedy School, or by contacting Philipp Rotmann.
