Achim Steiner, Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and GPPi Advisory Board member, will give a guest lecture entitled "A General Assessment of the Global State of the Environment" at the Free University of Berlin on January 24th from 14:30-16:30. The lecture will take place in the large lecture hall (Grosser Hörsaal) "Informatik", Takustr. 9 in Berlin.

Additionally, Steiner will address how sustainable development can be (further) initiated in developing countries and how UNEP, the EU, and Germany can contribute to such development. Lastly, he will speak on the moderation of intergovernmental negotiations, his role as the UNEP Executive Director in contributing to the negotiations’ success, how his perspective has changed over the years and his personal outlook for 2007 and beyond.
