Establishing the International Risk and Governance Council (IRGC)
October 2001 - September 2002
Project objectives
The International Risk Governance Council (IRGC) is an independent foundation supporting governments, businesses and other organizations in developing and developed countries. The IRGC offers a unique platform for global debate and is a source of compiled, and if possible unified, scientific knowledge on new global risks. IRGC also develops generic recommendations and guidelines. Based on a public-private partnership it follows a cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary approach, focusing on both traditional as well as emerging human-induced risks. GPPi assisted the IRGC in its early development phase through three sets of services:
- Mission development. Recommendations on the formulation of mission and goals of IRGC.
- Development of business plan for IRGC start-up phase. Detailed outline for IRGC’s operations and specific recommendations with regard to the operational setup of the start-up phase.
- IRGC Round Table: GPPi provided managerial and strategic support for conceptualizing the IRGC Round Table in January 2002 during which IRGC´s mission statement and draft business plan were discussed with a team of recognized international experts.
