Zukunftsbrücke: Chinese-German Young Professional Campus

Toward a Low Carbon Economy: Sustainable Urban Development in China and Germany in the 21st Century

14-23 May 2012 (Beijing and Hangzhou)

Project context

The last decades have witnessed the strengthening of economic and trade relations between China and Germany. This bilateral relationship has also paved the way for cooperation in areas beyond the economy to include global challenges like climate change, energy security and the international financial markets.

The pressing global challenges of our time call for enhanced transnational collaboration. The strategic partnership between China and Germany, based on mutual understanding and respect, will be vital in tackling the challenges that lie ahead.

The Zukunftsbrücke: Chinese-German Young Professional Campus aims to increase the level of mutual understanding that provides the basis for future strategic partnership. Initiated by the Stiftung Mercator in cooperation with the All-China Youth Federation, and organized by GPPi and Peking University, the annual forum will bring together 30 outstanding Chinese and German young professionals (15 participants from each country) from the public, private and non-profit sectors to work on pressing issues facing both countries.

The inaugural program of the Campus will take place in Beijing and Hangzhou from 14-23 May 2012. The topic in 2012 is: Toward a Low Carbon Economy: Sustainable Urban Development in China and Germany in the 21st century.

Project objectives

The Zukunftsbrücke: Chinese-German Young Professional Campus aims to provide a platform for intellectual and cultural exchange in order to foster mutual understanding among young professionals in China and Germany. The campus fosters the development of a strong and lasting network of future leaders from both countries who will go on to engage in transnational collaboration.
