Timo Behr
Timo Behr is a Research Associate with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi), based in Kampala, Uganda. He is also a PhD candidate in International Relations at the Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of the Johns Hopkins University in Washington DC, where he is working on a research project on European foreign policy cooperation in the Middle East. His research interests include European integration, international development and political economy, international security and transatlantic relations.
Prior to joining GPPi, Timo served as an Assistant Professor in International Relations at the University of Bologna in Forli and as a Lecturer in European Studies at SAIS in Washington DC. Previously, he also worked as an Associate Fellow at the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University, as a consultant for Dover & Jones, a political consulting group, and as a visiting fellow and research assistant at the EU’s Institute for Security Studies and the Groupement d’Etudes et de Recherches Notre Europe, both in Paris. His work experience also included assignments with the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington DC, the German Embassy in Ankara and the Representation of North-Rhine Westphalia in Brussels.
Timo holds a BA in political science and economics from the University of London and a M.A. in international relations and international economics from the Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He has been awarded with scholarships from the Compagnia di San Paolo and the Paul E. Kelly Foundation. Timo has published on European foreign affairs and transatlantic cooperation, most recently Enduring Differences? France, Germany and Europe’s Middle East Dilemma (Journal of European Integration: 2008)
