Philipp Rotmann
Philipp Rotmann is a Research Associate with the Global Public Policy Institute, Berlin. His research interests include global security and the United Nations, in particular the merging of development and security in contemporary peacebuilding and transitional administration, as well as the political economy of energy ("energy security") and global energy governance.
During his undergraduate studies, Philipp worked as an intern with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Earlier in his career, he spent three years as a project manager and team leader in the IT industry. Philipp is a fellow of the 25. Manfred Wörner Seminar of the German Marshall Fund of the United States and the German Armed Forces. Philipp's M.A. thesis (2007) deals with The Evolution of Doctrine and Strategy in United Nations Police Operations, 2001-2006. At GPPi he most recently published, with Thorsten Benner and Andrea Binder, Learning to Build Peace? United Nations Peacebuilding and Organizational Learning: Developing a Research Framework (2007) and with Thorsten Benner, Learning to Learn? UN Peacebuilding and the Challenges of Building a Learning Organization (2008, Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding).
Starting in September 2008, Philipp will spend two years as a McCloy Scholar at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University to complete a Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. He holds a B.A. from the University of Erfurt (Germany), where he studied economics, political science and law, and an M.A. in international relations from Humboldt University Berlin, the Free University Berlin and the University of Potsdam. In 2004/05, he spent an academic year at the University of Essex (UK). In support of his studies, Philipp received scholarships from Harvard University, the German National Academic Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Haniel Foundation.
