Philipp Rotmann

Philipp Rotmann is a Fellow with the Global Public Policy Institute, Berlin. His research interests include global security governance and conflict management, in particular the interface of military force, policing and the rule of law in peace operations and counterinsurgency. In 2009, Philipp was briefly assigned to the German Federal Foreign Office at its Special Task Force on Afghanistan and Pakistan. Before joining GPPi as a Research Associate in 2005, he worked for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Earlier in his career, he spent three years as a project manager and team leader in the IT industry.

His commentary has been featured on the BBC, in the Financial Times Deutschland and in the International Herald Tribune, among others. His publications include Learning to Build Peace? United Nations Peace Operations in Global Perspective (forthcoming with Oxford University Press) as well as numerous articles in academic journals and policy periodicals.

Philipp studied economics, political science and law at the Universities of Erfurt (B.A.) and Essex, and international relations at Humboldt University Berlin, the Free University Berlin and the University of Potsdam (M.A.). From 2008 to 2010, he was a McCloy Scholar at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where he received a Master of Public Administration (MPA). His studies were supported by scholarships from Harvard University, the German National Academic Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Haniel Foundation.
