Markus A. Palenberg

Markus A. Palenberg is Managing Director of GPPi Consulting, the consulting practice of the Global Public Policy Institute. His areas of expertise include international organizations and global and regional partnership programs. For these entities, he focuses on strategy, evaluation and analysis of governance and financial performance.

Before joining GPPi in 2005, Markus built a solid business background in senior management and consulting positions. From 2000-2004, Markus was a consultant with McKinsey & Company, Inc. in the Paris, Cologne and Munich Offices. As Project Manager, he specialized on strategy projects in both the public and private sector. He then worked as Corporate Projects Manager with the Scout24 Group, responsible for strategy, merger & acquisition and change management projects, as well as serving as Director IT for a business unit.

Markus holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the RWTH Aachen (Germany) and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, US). He was awarded the Borchert Medal of the RWTH Aachen for his Ph.D. thesis and received a two-year scholarship from the German Humboldt-Foundation.

From January 2009, Markus will lead the new Institute for Development Strategy (IDS) based in Munich. IDS will cooperate with GPPi on selected projects and Markus will remain affiliated with GPPi as a fellow.
