Fabian Breuer is a fellow with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi). Currently he works in the presidency of the European University Institute in Florence and serves as advisor to the president. Before this, he was project manager of the European Union Democracy Observatory and the EU Profiler. His research interests include European integration studies, European foreign and security policy, international organizations, e-democracy and direct democracy.
From 2008-2010 Fabian was a post-doc fellow in the European Foreign and Security Policy Studies Program offered by the Volkswagen Foundation, the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Compagnia di San Paolo. His project focused on socialization and “Brusselisation” in decision-making processes in the European Security and Defense Policy. From 2007-2008, Fabian was a project associate with GPPi's consulting branch, in which he focused on monitoring and evaluation of multi-stakeholder initiatives and development programs. Prior to joining GPPi, he worked for the Council of Europe and in the press office of Javier Solana at the European Council. He also has experience in journalism and market research.
Fabian holds a PhD in political science from the European University Institute in Florence – with emphasis on European security and defense policy – and an MA in international relations from the University of Amsterdam. Fabian also studied political science, international relations and law at the Dresden University of Technology.
