Björn Conrad

Björn Conrad is a non-resident fellow with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin. He is an extended-term consultant on climate change with the evaluation division of the Global Environment Facility at the World Bank in Washington, DC. His areas of expertise include China's domestic and foreign policy, EU-China relations and climate change. His research focuses on China’s domestic climate policy and its implications for China's role in global climate governance as well as for EU-China climate cooperation.
From 2008-2011 Björn was a research associate with GPPi in Berlin, where he built up the institute’s work on rising powers and global governance. His other work experience includes teaching fellowships at Harvard University and the University of Trier and internships with the German Foreign Office in Berlin and the UN Secretariat in New York. He was also a visiting associate with the Boston Consulting Group’s Munich office. His commentaries have appeared in the International Herald Tribune, European Voice, Handelsblatt, ZEIT online and EU Observer.
Björn received an MA in political science, Chinese Studies and Economics from the University of Trier and a Master in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Trier. He also received a certificate of Chinese language and culture studies from Peking University, where he spent the academic year 2002-2003. He has held scholarships from the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), the Fulbright Commission, the Asia Europe Foundation and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
