Andras Horvath

Andras Horvath was a research assistant with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin and worked on projects specific to humanitarian assistance.
In the summer of 2011, he completed a master’s degree in public policy from Central European University in Budapest. He also holds a joint master’s degree in international relations and economics and a bachelor’s degree in oriental languages and cultures, all from Hungarian state universities. During his studies, Andras volunteered for the Association of Diplomacy in Practice, a student association at the Corvinus University of Budapest, as well as interned in 2009 at the Middle East desk of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Andras’ research has thus far focused on the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Middle East. Through academic scholarships, he spent six weeks in Russia and 10 months in Kuwait to improve his language skills and cultural knowledge. His academic work has included a wide range of topics, such as energy policy, conflict research and the cultural and organizational aspects of humanitarian assistance. Andras was given the Central European University’s Academic Pro-Rector’s Excellence Award for highest GPA in 2011. In addition, he has been granted stipends to attend an executive seminar on the humanitarian aspects of counterterrorism at the European University Institute and to conduct interviews in China for his master’s thesis in 2011.
