Jobs & Internships

Interested in joining GPPi? Working with GPPi provides challenging and intellectually stimulating opportunities to address some of the most pressing global policy challenges of our time through research, policy advice, and dialogue. We think of ourselves as highly motivated and dedicated individuals with outstanding analytical skills, international experience, and a willingness to grow with the job. GPPi values diversity and is committed to building an inclusive work environment for colleagues of all backgrounds. If you have a question, or would like to suggest reasonable adjustments to the application process, please contact Wade Hoxtell. The majority of our team is based in our office in Berlin. Our working language is English. Knowledge of German (and other languages such as Mandarin, Spanish, Portuguese, Hindi, Arabic, Turkish, Russian, and French) is an asset. There are three main ways to join the GPPi team:

Apply for an Open Vacancy

We recruit for specific positions for particular research, advisory or dialogue projects. Whenever such vacancies arise, we advertise them here.

                    Suggest Your Own Project

                    We strive to do innovative, policy-relevant work. We welcome proposals from entrepreneurial and self-driven individuals to develop cutting-edge research (e.g., in the context of a PhD or Post-Doc project), advisory or dialogue agendas that fit the issue areas we work on. While we are purely project-funded and cannot usually provide start-up grants for new projects, we can provide an attractive platform for innovative researchers and help with securing funding for new projects. We can also act as host institutions for grants such as the Humboldt Chancellor Fellowship. Suggestions or proposals which are directly or closely related to our work can be submitted to gppi@gppi.net. We encourage early submissions and please understand we can only accept inquiries up to one month before the deadline.

                    Introduce Yourself to Us

                    We are always interested in getting to know talented people with an interest in our research, advisory and dialogue work. Should you be interested in our work and think that your profile fits well with GPPi, please feel free to send your CV and a short cover letter to gppi@gppi.net. Please send all attachments in PDF format since, to protect ourselves from pervasive malware, we do not open any other type of document. There might not be an open vacancy, but knowing each other is often the first step to working together.

                    Interning With Us

                    GPPi runs a small, highly selective internship program for current students, or students between bachelor’s and master’s degrees, interested in gaining first-hand experience in public policy research and consulting. Candidates who already have a graduate degree (master’s or equivalent) and are not currently enrolled at a university are not eligible to apply for our internship program.

                    We do our best to match the qualifications and interests of our interns with research, advisory and dialogue projects to which they can contribute most. Depending on their background and interests, GPPi interns will contribute to one or two of our issue areas:

                    • Communications: accepting applications for interns with a focus on social media and graphic design;
                    • Humanitarian Action: not accepting applications at this time;
                    • Global Order: accepting applications for September onward (please note: the internship entails a substantial amount of organizational and logistical tasks, in addition to research work);
                    • Peace & Security: not accepting applications at this time;
                    • Human Rights & Democracy: not accepting applications at this time;
                    • Data & Technology Politics: not accepting applications at this time;
                    • Migration: not accepting applications at this time.

                    Candidates must be highly motivated to work in a demanding environment that requires excellent research and analysis as well as communication and project management skills. In their applications, successful candidates must demonstrate:

                    • Strong analytical skills;
                    • An outstanding academic background in the social sciences, law, history or a related field;
                    • An interest in and familiarity with the relevant issues of global governance and the key players in the field;
                    • Exceptional writing ability, in particular in the English language (short-listed candidates will be required to send writing samples);
                    • A record of initiative, engagement and entrepreneurial spirit;
                    • International experience outside of home country is preferred;
                    • Good team fit.

                    Internships are based in our Berlin office. For full-time interns, GPPi can pay an €800-per-month contribution to living expenses for those not receiving a scholarship for their internship. For part-time internships, the stipend is adjusted accordingly. The minimum duration is six weeks of full-time working hours or alternatively ten weeks part-time (minimum 2 – 3 days per week). Please indicate when you would be available. Send an email to gppi@gppi.net and include a copy of your CV with a brief statement of purpose outlining what you expect from an internship and what you would bring to GPPi. Please send all attachments in PDF format since, to protect ourselves from pervasive malware, we do not open any other type of document. Shortlisted candidates will be asked for writing samples. Note: we do not encourage including a photograph of yourself in your application, or the use of Europass CVs.

                    GPPi values diversity and is committed to building an inclusive work environment for colleagues of all backgrounds. If you have a question, or would like to suggest reasonable adjustments to the application process, please let us know.

                    We encourage international applicants. Please note, accepted candidates will be responsible for arranging their own visa if one is required. We can provide a letter of invitation and an internship contract to support this process.
