Sandeep Patel

Sandeep was an intern with the Global Public Policy Institute for the fall of 2009. He earned his B.A. in 2002 in chemistry from Washington University in Saint Louis, and earned his doctorate in physical chemistry from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2009. His research focused in the field of single-molecule photophysics and photovoltaic development. He co-authored several research publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals as well as co-inventing a patent.
In addition to his research experience in graduate school, he completed a stay at the National Institutes of Health in 2000 and was awarded a Howard Hughes Undergraduate Summer Research Fellowship in 2001. He was also involved with the start-up of two small research companies.
At GPPi, Sandeep supported the institute's reserach on the relationship of the rise of alternative energy generation and fossil-fuel markets, with particular emphasis on the role of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) and government subsidies supporting such technologies. He also used the time at GPPi to facilitate his transition from research science to public policy and to leverage his scientific experience to further the understanding of global energy policy.
