Intern
Nicholas McSpedden-Brown

Nicholas McSpedden-Brown was an intern with the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin from February to April 2011. Schooled in Australia, he was awarded a scholarship from the French Foreign Ministry to study in France. He recently completed a Master of Public Policy and Development from the Paris School of Economics. He also holds a Maîtrise in Econometrics from the Sorbonne, as well as a Bachelor of Applied Mathematics and Social Science from l'Université Claude Bernard in Lyon.
At the Paris School of Economics, Nicholas focused on the economic analysis and evaluation of public policies, primarily in developing countries. In particular, he studied policy analysis in areas such as foreign aid, international finance, microfinance, governance and corruption, health, network industry regulation, taxation and sustainable development. His research centered on the distribution of climate change mitigation costs across countries, as well as the design of a just income tax system using educational attainment as a measure of equality of opportunity. He is particularly interested in how normative economics and philosophy can be applied to development and social justice issues.
Before GPPi, Nicholas worked at the non-profit organization Australian Communications Consumer Action Network, researching issues in the Australian telecommunications sector related to competition policy and consumer advocacy.
