Maria Strakhova

Мaria Strakhova was an intern with the Global Public Policy Institute for the spring of 2010. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Northeastern University with a B.A. in international affairs and a minor in history. At Northeastern her research focused on global governance, international institutions, and civil society. Her academic interests lie in the Russia/CIS region.
She has worked and volunteered in four countries during her studies, including China, Germany and England. Most recently, she completed a disarmament diplomacy and humanitarian action program at the United Nations Office in Geneva, in partnership with UN Institute for Disarmament Research, Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining, The Small Arms Survey and others. Her work focused on the norm setting potential of the 2008 Cluster Munitions Convention and its effect on states not parties.
At GPPi, Maria supported the institute's analysis of worldwide cause-related marketing alliances between humanitarian organizations and the corporate sector. The assessment outlined the related issues of such partnerships and served as a guide for UNICEF's future collaborations with the private sector.
